Install Portsmith in four Finder steps
- 1Download and open Portsmith.dmgThe disk image comes directly from updates.portsmith.app.
- 2Drag Portsmith to ApplicationsWait for Finder to finish copying the app before continuing.
- 3Eject the Portsmith disk imageThe mounted installer is no longer needed after the copy completes.
- 4Open Portsmith from ApplicationsPortsmith launches as a menu-bar app rather than a normal app window.
On first launch, macOS may show its standard downloaded-app confirmation. Choose Open. A genuine Portsmith download should not require you to weaken Gatekeeper or change security settings.
What happens after installation
Portsmith appears in the menu bar and walks you through its listener list before asking whether to start the trial. It requests no Screen Recording, Accessibility, Full Disk Access, Apple Events, or administrator permission.
- The trial does not start automatically.
- Your listener and process data stays on your Mac.
- Sparkle offers signed updates inside the app; it never silently installs them.
- Agent Island is built in: inspect observed sessions, focus their Host apps, stop eligible local agents without closing those hosts, and optionally show activity beside a supported MacBook notch without adding another menu-bar item.
